4. Grading Standards & Rubric
Back2Back Cards evaluates the face of each card using three core parameters. Each parameter is assigned a grade on a scale from Mint [M] to Poor [PR].
4.1 Centering (Front Face Alignment Only)
| Grade | Criteria |
|---|---|
| Mint [M] | Visually flawless. Borders are well-proportioned at roughly 60/40 or better on all sides. |
| Near-Mint [NM] | Exceptionally clean with a slight shift. Front alignment is roughly 65/35 or better. |
| Excellent [EX] | Visually off-center, but the framing borders are completely intact. Front alignment is roughly 70/30 or better. |
| Good [GD] | Noticeably skewed. Borders are heavily uneven at roughly 75/25 or better, giving it a distinct tilt. |
| Fair [FR] | Severe miscut (greater than 75/25), or the print artwork is beginning to bleed right into the edge cut. |
| Poor [PR] | Extreme misalignment, warped borders, or a complete factory miscut where text or borders are sheared off. |
4.2 Edges & Corners (Front Lip Perimeter Only)
| Grade | Criteria |
|---|---|
| Mint [M] | Razor-sharp corner radii and factory-clean edges. Absolutely zero silvering (the underlying foil showing through the card border). |
| Near-Mint [NM] | Exceptionally clean edges. No chipping allowed, but permitted a single micro-speck of silvering visible only under magnification. |
| Excellent [EX] | Minor silvering is visible along the edge lips, or a single corner tip shows a microscopic touch of white fuzz or fraying. |
| Good [GD] | Moderate edge wear. Visible silvering along multiple borders, or 1 to 2 corners display minor bluntness/layer splitting. |
| Fair [FR] | Heavy perimeter wear. Deep silvering scratches, minor edge nicks, or distinct fraying/peeling layers on the corners. |
| Poor [PR] | Severe destruction. Chipped edges, structural peeling, or corners that are completely rounded or flattened from impact. |
4.3 Surface (The Face & Hologram)
| Grade | Criteria |
|---|---|
| Mint [M] | Absolute factory gloss. Zero print lines, zero scuffs, and completely free of micro-scratches under direct lighting. |
| Near-Mint [NM] | High gloss, but allowed a single, faint hairline scratch or micro-factory print line visible only when tilting the card at a 45° angle. |
| Excellent [EX] | Light surface scuffs or minor "holo-bleeding" (where the foil shine leaks through the ink). Absolutely NO deep scratches, dents, or creases. |
| Good [GD] | Minor defects. Scattered light scratches visible in standard room lighting, slight cloudiness, or a single pin-prick binder indent. |
| Fair [FR] | Noticeable damage. A non-structural surface crease (does not show on the back), moderate scratching, clouding, or small surface stains. |
| Poor [PR] | Total degradation. Severe creases, ink fading, heavy scratching, surface tears, or deep indents that compromise the card's flat profile. |
5. Certification & Verification
5.1 Unique Certification
Each graded card receives a unique 9-digit certification code permanently linked to that specific card in our database. This code provides lifetime verification access.
5.2 Database Permanence
Certification records are maintained indefinitely to ensure verifiability. We reserve the right to flag or revoke certification if fraud, tampering, or misrepresentation is discovered.
5.3 Tamper-Evident Holders
Any signs of tampering with Back2Back holders void all certification and guarantees. Back2Back Collects is not responsible for cards removed from or submitted in tampered holders.
5.4 Accommpanied Story
Each Verified holder comes with a unique fictional Storyline. This storyline is NOT an official Nintendo / the Pokemon company storyline and is in no way associated with them, this is entirely created by Back2Back to accompany each graded slab.
6. Limitation of Liability
6.1 Grading Errors
Back2Back takes no liability for grading errors. We are not liable for any consequential, incidental, or indirect damages. To distinctively position ourselves, we ensure our grading is nothing like known 'professional' services and therefore use lettering over the traditional numbering.
6.3 Maximum Liability
In no event shall Back2Back's total liability exceed the amount paid for the Individual Collectable from first sale. We are not liable for the card's value, lost profits, or collectable value.
6.4 Third-Party Reliance
Back2Back is not responsible for how third parties (auction houses, dealers, collectors) use, interpret, or rely upon our grades. Our certification is for verification purposes only.
7. Intellectual Property
All Back2Back logos & certification formats are the intellectual property of Back2Back. Unauthorized reproduction or use is prohibited.
8. Modifications to Terms
Back2Back reserves the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of updated terms.
